What To Wear To An Interview | 3 Golden Rules
24th January 2017 | Interview Tips
So you’re searching for the next step in your career and you’ve landed yourself an interview (or two!) As well as researching the company you’re interviewing for and preparing to answer any questions that may come your way, you’ll want to start thinking about how best to present yourself in order to make a good first impression.
Image isn’t everything. Ultimately an employer wants to know you have the right experience and personality to fit their role and company. That said, making a real effort and thinking carefully about how you present yourself will demonstrate to the interviewer that you tick the ‘employable’ box, you’re professional and help you to stand out from the rest.
What To Wear To An Interview: 3 Golden Rules
Follow our 3 golden rules on what to wear to an interview and give yourself the best chance at nailing it! Good luck!
Research
You’ve little hope of knowing what the right outfit is for your interview until you’ve done your research. It’s always a good idea to ask when arranging your interview what the dress code is.
Don’t just wear a suit, suit the business
Employers differ hugely, so how smart or formal your outfit is should reflect the company you’re interviewing for. Is the employer a trendy Digital Agency working in a creative studio? Are they a leading multinational technology company working in high-end offices? Think carefully about the company and how you fit with them.
Start as you mean to go on
An employer wants to get to know the real you, so wear something you feel comfortable in and that reflects who you are. There’s no point turning up to an interview all suited and booted if it’s not something you’re comfortable in.
Be the best version of yourself you can be. Selling yourself and your skills with integrity will give you the best chance at getting the job that’s perfect for you.
